Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down? …

Thumbs - MorguefileFast Company just announced their annual list of the 10 Best and Worst Leaders of 2015 …

As you might imagine, this list has some controversial selections, including one prominent presidential candidate and a slew of business folks.   Some are well-known names, while others might have many of us going “Now just who is this person again?“.   

All wield power and influence … and in that respect, I guess all are considered leaders.  


The article does not include any criteria to show how the decisions were made to include or exclude people or how they wound up on one list or the other, so this is worth some thought.

I do not doubt that the staff of Fast Company are well-equipped to make such decisions and the people who I am familiar with are accurately placed on either the Good or Bad list. 

However, I do wonder whether they just got together and contributed their individual favorites or had some type of standardization.   That might introduce some objectivity into the process.

Interesting article via Fast Company about some organizations that appear to be doing their employees right.

Three items for reflection and action as you read this article:

1) Read the article and then research the companies to find out what makes them so different from other companies.

2) If your organization is NOT like these and you wish it were, either change it or look for other opportunities.

3) Consider what YOU bring to the table – it’s not always the organization that is either good or bad.

Why Ask “Why”? …

Why is a dangerous question

Well, the first response to the title might be “Why Not?”, but we need to go deeper.  I think many of us are searching these days, although not for the same reasons or with the same goals …

We are not at the beginning of our careers, relationships, or life, but somewhere in the middle of all this.  We have accomplished things, experienced life, created memories, and learned a bit about ourselves and how we are. 

Now we wonder, for a variety of reasons and with consideration of our individual backgrounds, history, experiences, attitudes, beliefs, and so on …
