Sounding Good …

Speech“There’s a tremendous difference between good sound reasons and reasons that sound good.”

Author Unknown, but very astute

… and many of us probably believe that we hear way too much of the second and not early enough of the first.

Some reasons that sound good …

“It’s a matter of national security.”

“Our organization values (insert “our people”, “our service” or other glittering generality).”

“The market dictates that we do this.”

 Some good sound reasons …

“This is the right thing to do.”

“We need to provide better and safer products/services.”

“Our people deserve more.”

As far as I’m concerned, we could actually stop with that first good, sound reason.

Feeling rather tired of all the rhetoric and posturing in the Heartland …
