A Little About Being a Disciple . . .

Disciples of Christ Statement Of Identity

We are Disciples of Christ,
a movement for wholeness
in a fragmented world.
As part of the one body of Christ,
we welcome all to the Lord’s Table
as God has welcomed us.

One Person’s Perspective:

I am not a “Church Camp” Christian nor am I particularly evangelical, pentecostal, and definitely not fundamental.

I do not sway with The Spirit while singing or praying, although my leg does tend to move to the beat when certain high-energy contemporary Christian music plays.

To be honest, I can’t even clap in time with the music most of the time.

I do not find my spirituality in detailed dissection of heaven and hell, or in determining who is “in” and who is “out” of favor with God.

I try to treat everyone nice and spend my energy on helping people who are in need, while trying real hard not to be a jerk towards my fellow folks on the planet.

I am inclusive and will take issue with those who exclude me or anyone else.  As many where I am now are saying in many ways:

“God loves everyone – NO exceptions.”

I try to live outside myself and my own personal needs, by doing what I can to help others and to support those who act as though we all share the same planet and are all people.

I enjoy a good joke, even when it’s on me.  Humor is God’s gift to us as we move through life.

From what I can see, this is a very okay way to be a Disciple . . .
